Rationale

Why submit a new tech request?

SPS requires that all staff submit a new tech request for any new hardware, software, or online applications. There are several reasons for this process:

  • To ensure that SPS is in compliance with student data privacy laws and policies.
  • To ensure that new technology is compatible with existing tech tools in the district.
  • To ensure that resources aren't being duplicated.
  • To assess any potential future support or maintenance needs.
  • To evaluate purchase and future costs.

What merits a new tech request form?

Factors that merit submitting a new tech request form, include, but are not limited to:

  • Any digital service that requires student information (including images) -- even if students aren't logging in themselves.
  • Any application or extension that needs to be installed on student devices.
  • Any hardware purchases.
  • Paid subscriptions.
  • Pilot projects exploring any of the above.
